چکیده

We present the first measurements of the weak gravitational lensing signal induced by the large scale mass distribution from data obtained as part of the ongoing Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHTLS). The data used in this analysis are from the Wide Synoptic Survey, which aims to image ∼ 170 square degree in five filters. We have analysed ∼ 22 deg (31 pointings) of i data spread over two of the three survey fields. These data are of excellent quality and the results bode well for the remainder of the survey: we do not detect a significant ‘B’-mode, suggesting that residual systematics are negligible at the current level of accuracy. Assuming a Cold Dark Matter model and marginalising over the Hubble parameter h ∈ [0.6, 0.8], the source redshift distribution and systematics, we constrain σ8, the amplitude of the matter power spectrum. At a fiducial matter density Ωm = 0.3 we find σ8 = 0.85 ± 0.06. This estimate is in excellent agreement with previous studies. Combination of our results with those from the Deep component of the CFHTLS enables us to place a constraint on a constant equation of state for the dark energy, based on cosmic shear data alone. We find that w0 < −0.8 at 68% confidence. Subject headings: cosmology: observations − dark matter − gravitational lensing

Detection of correlated galaxy ellipticities from CFHT data: first evidence for gravitational lensing by large-scale structures

We report the detection of a significant (5.5 σ) excess of correlations between galaxy ellipticities at scales ranging from 0.5 to 3.5 arc-minutes. This detection of a gravitational lensing signal by large-scale structure was made using a composite high quality imaging survey of 6300 arcmin obtained at the Canada France Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) with the UH8K and CFH12K panoramic CCD cameras. The...

The SL2S Galaxy-scale Gravitational Lens Sample. I. The alignment of mass and light in massive early-type galaxies at z=0.2-0.9

We study the relative alignment of mass and light in a sample of 16 massive early-type galaxies at z = 0.2 − 0.9 that act as strong gravitational lenses. The sample was identified from deep multiband images obtained as part of the Canada France Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey as part of the Strong Lensing Legacy Survey (SL2S). Higher resolution follow-up imaging is available for a subset of 10 s...

THE RISE TIME OF TYPE Ia SUPERNOVAE FROM THE SUPERNOVA LEGACY SURVEY

We compare the rise times of nearby and distant Type Ia supernovae (SNe Ia) as a test for evolution using 73 high-redshift spectroscopically-confirmed SNe Ia from the first two years of the five year Supernova Legacy Survey (SNLS) and published observations of nearby SN. Because of the “rolling” search nature of the SNLS, our measurement is approximately 6 times more precise than previous studi...

S-cosmos: the Spitzer Legacy Survey of the Hst-acs 2⊓⊔ Cosmos Fieldi: Survey Strategy and First Analysis

The Spitzer-COSMOS survey (S-COSMOS) is a Legacy program (Cycles 2+3) designed to carry out a uniform deep survey of the full 2⊓⊔ COSMOS field in all seven Spitzer bands (3.6, 4.5, 5.6, 8.0, 24.0, 70.0, 160.0μm). This paper describes the survey parameters, mapping strategy, data reduction procedures, achieved sensitivities to date, and the complete data set for future reference. We show that th...
